Half Maraton

I did it!!! I Meagan Marie Sparks ran 13.1 miles (in a row!!)  LOL! This weekend my family and I headed up to Rexburg Idaho for the Teton Dam Half Marathon. It was AWESOME!!  My goal was to run the whole race and I am proud to say that I did! My finishing time was 2 hours and 12 minutes (so about a 10 min mile.)  It was the most beautiful day.  The race course was spread across the fields of Rexburg, breathtaking, and a good distraction while running.  It was such a wonderful experience and I can't wait to do it again! I ran it with some of my family, aunts and uncles, cousins and parents.  It was so great to have that support!  And a big thanks to my sisters for coming all the way to Idaho to watch Lizzy.

A Story Of True Love
One thing can be said about pushing your body to the limits, it brings out emotions.  The good, the bad, the ugly, peoples true colors shining through.  Two days prior to the race my parents purchased shuffle ipods to aid them in their 13.1 mile run. The night before we left for Idaho was spent loading heart pumping songs onto the new shuffles.  Throughout our training we had come to find that running without music was like skydiving with out a parachute. So every effort was taken to ensure we all had fully charged and song loaded ipods come race day. My parents plan was to stay together throughout the race, and they did so.  Everything was going great, until they reached mile 3.  That is when my mom's ipod stopped working.  She tried everything, it was dead (despite having been fully charged the night before). And with still 10 miles to go she didn't know what she was going to do.  That is when my Dad gave my Mom his ipod!  And refused to take it back.  He ran the rest of the race in silence so that my mom could have music. They ran across the finish holding hands with a time of 2 hours and 33 minutes.

Amazing, good job!

And that's a very nice story about your parents. I'm curious as to what music your mom did run with though, what kinda music does your dad like haha?

THAT IS SO AWESOME!!!! What a great accomplishment-you can do hard things! And do it well. Wow-what a time for your miles. I'm very proud of you. I'm sure there can be great symbolism found in the race that you WON. Charole, I'm so proud of you too!!! You both are my hero's.

WAY TO GO MEAGAN!! That's awesome! I'm so envious of your desire to do something like that. I really WISH I wanted to. But, I'm too tired all the time.. :) I loved all the pictures! Lizzy is still so stinkin cute! And Miley loves watermelon too so we should get together and have a watermelon bash! Anyway Congratulations again. I'm really proud of you.

And that was a cute story about your parents. My dad would probably love to go running if he had the MO-TAB on an IPOD. But theres no way my mom would want to run with him listening to that..(he tends to sing really loud to the Mormon Tabrinacle Choir)

Meagan that is so awesome! Way to go! I really want to do this! The story of your mom and dad is adorable. Dads are just awesome. And it shows how much your dad loves your mom. But how frustrating too! Dumb ipods. Zac and I were thinking it would be fun to do a triathlon, but the problem is that we are both bad swimmers. Anyway, your awesome good job!

Hi, It's only me, the grandma!
I want to say how truly proud I am of your running the race, but even more proud of all your faithful training for it. In all kinds of weather you stuck with it, pushing Lizzy and sometimes running daisy (the dog). It is amazing to think that you both can run so far, you too, James. Keep up the good work! All of us in the family admire and envy your determination and the great feeling of accomplishment. The pictures are great. What a fun family event.

Yea, I guess it's ok, i mean it's not like a MARATHON or something......just kidding! No, I am jealous! You are amazing for finishing and training. The most I run is to the fridge to get milk for my oreos! I remember when we would run up the canyon and we would call 3 miles good. I am proud of you for all your strength and determination. Loves!

Hi Meagan,

Way to go on your run! Sorry I haven't been in touch in a while. I rarely go blog surfing these days. Life has been busy, but I think of you often. I hope you are doing well. I see Lizzy at church. She is getting big and is such a beauty.

Love ya,
